Hotel Electronic Distribution Network Association(HEDNA), along with Homeaway and tnooz, organized a Hackathon in January 2018. The design challenge was to improve guest experience in the hotel Industry using AI and emerging tech. For this project, I teamed up with two UT students who developed a working demo of some parts on the project, whereas I designed the user interface.
HEDNA is the global forum to advance hospitality distribution through collaboration and knowledge sharing. They organized a Hackathon in association with Homeway, a leading vacation rental company. The design challenge was to improve guest experience in the hotel Industry using AI and emerging tech. We decided to tackle one of main problems of leisure travelling, planning the trip.
Personalized itinerary is a tool that integrates with travel or hotel website to create a free and customized itinerary for customers based on their interests and the services and amenities provided by the hotels around the city. Planning a trip is usually time consuming and frustrating, especially on a fixed budget. This tool provides multiple personalized itineraries for economic and luxury trips and recommends hotels based on items in the itinerary. Finally, the users could plan and book hotels and other services in a day and this makes the trip planning process easy and less time consuming.
To make the best use of the time, I started with a light competitve analysis to analyze four trip planner apps. After understanding the problem space of the competitors and their strengths and weaknesses, we started to underserved neeeds of the customers that werent fulfilled by these competitors. The design process started with Storyboarding to get a clear view of user's main tasks. We moved on to build user task map and rough wireframes. Finally we created the high fidelity mock ups highlighting the MVP of out product.
